Bobiverse Galaxy Map

About this map

An interactive 3D map of the Milky Way with the places of Dennis E. Taylor's Bobiverse novels (We Are Legion through The Infinite Extent) marked on it. Light-years everywhere; the galactic centre sits at the origin and the Sun 26,000 ly away.

What is real

• Stars: 24,700 stars from the HYG v4.1 catalog (everything within 300 ly, plus all naked-eye stars), with real positions, brightness and colour. Every named Bobiverse star (Epsilon Eridani, 82 Eridani, Eta Leporis, Gliese 877…) is placed from its Hipparcos entry.
• Galaxy shape: particles are sampled from the NASA/JPL-Caltech/ESO/R. Hurt artist's impression of the Milky Way (public domain), so the bar, the four arms and the Orion Spur are where current surveys put them. Vertical thickness is modelled (thin disc, thick disc, bulge).
• Globular clusters: all 157 from the Harris (2010) catalog, including NGC 6934.
• Neighbouring galaxies: LMC, SMC, Andromeda, Triangulum and the nearby dwarfs at real directions and distances. The background cubemap of far galaxies is procedural.

What is reconstructed

• PGF wormhole network: drawn as rings of hubs roughly every 12,000 ly from the core (12k, 24k, 37k, 49k), hubs every seven degrees, covering a third of the galaxy, with the first hub 1,700 ly from the system where Ick and Dae found it and Hub Zero eight hops away on the 37k ring. Rings Ick and Dae did not travel are drawn dimmer. Leaf chains are generated; real hub positions are never given.
• Bob paths: each narrator's chapter locations joined in order. The wiki does not record whether a move was by ship, wormhole, SCUT or manny, so treat them as "where the story goes".
• Nemesis: only its direction (galactic north) and the ~100,000-year time to impact are given, so its distance is an estimate. Everything with a dashed ring is approximate.
• Places the books never locate (Jabberwocky, Skippyland, Ghinah…) are listed in the search but not plotted.
